A Summer Update from the Green Committee

Welcome to the summer term from the Green Committee!

We achieved a great deal over the Lent Term that continues to strengthen our Green Commitment to the school foundation at both Pocklington and Lyndhurst
1)      BAGS FOR SCIENCE
Dr Clow coordinated a “Bags for Science” scheme where (across the foundation) we generated 296KG of recycled shoes and clothes from kind donations from staff, pupils and parents. This converted into 12000 points which will be used to purchase
A “Mud Clock”
A selection of new resources for Pocklington Junior Science and Lyndhurst Science Department
2)     FOOD FOOTPRINT
A recent “Food Survey” for 1st to 5th years and Lyndhurst showed a great many of our families are composting and very aware of the food miles on their produce and do, where possible, buy local.
We are committed to encouraging our pupils (and staff) to eat “7 a day” portions of fruit and vegetables through the excellent food served in our dining hall.
3)     2ND YEAR GREEN DAY
On Tuesday 17th June, all the 2nd year ICT pupils will be undertaking an exciting “off timetable Green Day” to take part in activities focused around eco awareness. There will also be a 2nd year GREEN non-uniform day (details to follow to parents).
4)     WWF SPONSORED ANIMAL
Our sponsored Elephant “Dumbo” is doing well. We get regular updates from the WWF on how our sponsorship is being spent.

Best Wishes
Mrs Alexander, Dr Clow and the Green Committee
