We are an Eco School once again!

On Wednesday 17th June 2015 we were inspected for the second time and we were very proud of our school foundation that shone with its Green Initiatives in both the prep and main school.

Dr Clow generated a list of everything we have done since the last inspection:



  • Moss graffiti
  • Fruit/veg planting around school
  • Living wall project
  • Green days
  • Sponsored an elephant called Dumbo
  • Building work at school: new geography, new bio, soon to be new Art/design (solar panels and ground heating)
  • Canteen/maintenance improved recycling (waste oil, waste food, wood chipper to make compost) and assemblies on this.
  • Healthy eating assemblies – improvements in canteen and tuck shop
  • Fairtrade assemblies, whole school quiz and cake stall. Research and suggestions of more fairtrade products in school. Link to Pocklington fairtrade.
  • Lower school pupils part of national bee count.
  • Links made to other eco committees in international schools.
  • Continued maintenance of wildlife areas
  • 500 trees planted
  • Continued inclusion of water butts, composters, bat and bird boxes.
  • Hedgehog homes
  • Fenwick-Smith boarding house bird watching and tweeting videos
  • 500 organism count
  • Bio field trips reintroduced and going to eco field centre
  • Whole school food surveys and assemblies on results
  • Continued paper recycling
  • Continued ink cartilage recycling
  • Measures put in place to reduce paper wastage
  • 6th form conservation group on Thursday afternoons
  • Wastebuster project collecting old clothing and turning them into eco points to buy eco - science equipment for science clubs and Plant clocks.
